Following is a list of manufacturers' most commonly used thread sizes. Each manufacturer may have some models that use threads other than listed, so it's always best to measure spike threads before purchasing. Proper thread can be determined easily by taking a spike to the hardware store and matching the thread with an available stud or nut.

U.S. thread sizes:

8-32 = .164" outside diameter, 32 threads per inch 10-32 = .190" outside diameter, 32 threads per inch 1/4"-20 = 1/4" outside diameter, 20 threads per inch 5/16"-18 = 5/16" outside diameter, 18 threads per inch 3/8"-16 = 3/8" outside diameter, 16 threads per inch

Metric thread sizes:

M5 = 5mm outside diameter, 0.8mm between threads M6 = 6mm outside diameter, 1mm between threads M8 = 8mm outside diameter, 1.25mm between threads M10 = 10mm outside diameter, 1.5mm between threads
