Soft Fat Dot: small monitor & bookshelf speaker isolation

Soft Fat Dots
Medium, Small, Large

Herbie's original, highly acclaimed Black MiniDot returns to our lineup, with a new name and even better performance. Softer than dBNeutralizer Fat Dots, Soft Fat Dots add more compliance when needed for small weight load, extra vibration control, or uneven surfaces. Soft Fat Dots do not ooze, mark, or mar surfaces in any way.

Small: Recommended for desktop speakers and small "satellite" monitors weighing less than 10 pounds, and other light-weight isolation applications requiring a soft, compliant interface. Dimensions: 3/4" (19mm) diameter by 1/8" (3.2mm) thick.

Medium: Recommended for monitor and bookshelf speakers weighing about 20 pounds or less, and other audio and video isolation applications requiring a soft, compliant interface. Dimensions: 1-1/8" (28.5mm) diameter by 1/8" (3.2mm) thick.

Large: for severe vibration conditions involving speakers weighing up to about 30 pounds. Also handy for miscellaneous isolation and decoupling applications where a soft, compliant interface is appropriate. Dimensions: 1-5/16" (33.3mm) diameter by 1/4" (6.4mm) thick.

Message: Hi Herb, I have B&W Diamond 805 bookshelf speakers, they weigh 26lbs. and are tapered in the rear. What size soft fat dots should i get and how many per speaker...thanks!

Webmaster's Reply: Herbie's Audio Lab's default recommendation for 805 speakers is four Big Fat Dots per speaker (or four Square Fat Dots). If using the more-compliant Soft Fat Dots, four Large Soft Fat Dots per speaker is recommended.

Message: How would I use these on Bose 901's?

Webmaster's reply: You would use four large Soft Fat Dots. Not at the very corners, but a little in from each side. If using the Bose pedestal stand, the Dots would be placed equidistant around the outside perimeter of the top plate. For 35-pound Bose 901 speakers, however, Herbie's Audio Lab recommends using four Square Fat Dots per speaker.

Message: Would four of the large Soft Fat Dots provide sufficient vibration damping for a 24 lb monitor placed on top of a subwoofer?

Webmaastter's reply: Yes. Though four Big Fat Dots are usually used between speaker and bass module, Large Soft Fat Dots should do very well.

Message: I sure am having a difficult time researching headphone amps. Any particular " dots " I should use under an Antique Labs that is my front runner. All who have one < $500.00 that you love, please advise here.
Thanks much!

Webmaster's reply: Most headphone amps do best with Tenderfoot isolation feet.

Message: Hi Herbie,

I'm considering medium Soft Fat Dots for the Audioengine 5's that I'm using on my wooden desktop. Would you recommend using 3 or 4 of those for each speaker?

Best, Roel

Webmaster's reply: For best results, four Dots under each speaker is recommended.

Message: Hi Herbie,

I am using a speakersstem where the Mainspeker sits in the Bass as separate unit, till now i used a Material from Wilson to do the Decoupling unfrotunatly the
Material is getting hard and somehow worn out. What would you sugest as Interface, for the speakers.

Weigth is 20kg. per speaker. Bass underneathe about 70 kg.
Regards
Jürgen

Webmaster's reply: Hi, Jürgen. Use Big Fat Dots between the speaker and bass cabinets. For under the bass cabinets, we have several appropriate isolation/decoupling products to choose from, including Big Fat Dots, Big Fat Gliders, Cone/Spike Decoupling Gliders.
