BlackBery HAL-O: small-signal warmth

BlackBery HAL-O 9 Tube Damper

With C-ring made of black beryllium copper and soft, proprietary isolation pads, Herbie's BlackBery Damping Instruments deliver intricate detail with silky smooth resolution. Tends to deliver a warm and lively, less "analytical" sonic result. Great for those who enjoy a "tubey" sound but would like a little more punctuality. Sleeveless isolation pads allow continuous use up to 420° F (216° C). For small-signal preamp, input, and driver tubes (not recommended for extremely hot-running 6H30 "supertubes" or EL84 power tubes).

BlackBery HAL-O fits closely around tube; ideal for Raysonic CD Players, tube microphones, and other limited-space applications.

"Well, the results are in and your HAL-O Blackbery tube dampers are definitely kicking some microphonics butt, at least so far in my Hammond system. After over a month of evaluation, trying different tubes, with and without your tube dampers, all I can say is you'll never see my 3 dampers back again!!! WOW are they sweet."

Mark Kirby, Baltimore, Maryland

"I'm pleased with the BlackBery HAL-O. I'd been reticent with your tube dampers, because the one I'd tried a few years back, currently called the "MidFi+," seemed to dry the sound out. The BlackBery doesn't. Perhaps because my system doesn't tend to the etched, the sound of the system with it installed is maybe a trifle dark, but warmer and more detailed (nice trick that). It sounds like human beings making music through time and not, as can be a special problem with digital, like a series of interesting audio events: however attractive some isolated moments are, you can find yourself oddly detached from the music you're hearing.

"To say the least, I'm intrigued. As time and the budget allow, I'll be trying more of your products."

Dennis Najuch, Pfafftown, North Carolina

"A HUGE Thank You!! You are always super to deal with and a class act for sure and highly recommended for your products. The blackBery's work perfect on the Raysonic."

Lars Sundin, Sweden

"To my opinion there is an overdose of snake oil products in the Hi Fi world, curing every problem heard or unheard of. I had a few of teflon dampers and changed to Blackbery. The sound changed pretty much like your description, even though I can not really understand why the ring material should make any difference at all. Even putting a damper on the rectfier tube made a difference, more 3D realism in general."

Ken Marascell, Hagersten, Sweden

"I received the mat and tube dampers yesterday. They work exactly as you say, and I'm more than happy with the improvements they make. Previously my system was on the bright side and now it's a much better balanced sound. Most notably bass has improved in both depth and precision. Surprisingly, surface noise has also been reduced allowing more detail to come out of the mix. But I must say that I now consider it mandatory to install tube dampers on a phono stage. It's unbelievable how much better focussed and finessed the sound has become. Sibilance has been reduced and the sound stage has broadened out in all directions. I was starting to get disappointed with my vinyl front end but it's now my pride and joy - many thanks for the excellent products."

Robert Hart, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

"Wow! While cryoed NOS made a huge improvement, I just added 4 Herbie Audio Labs Blackbery Halo 9s. An analog type improvement!"
